　Emperor Qianlong (1711-1799) was the sixth emperor of the Manchu Qing Dynasty. During his reign,
the Qing Dynasty was in its glory of the culture and the military expansion. The Emperor sent his troops
to conquer the frontiers ten times and succeeded all of them. This event is known as the “Ten Great Campaigns”.　
To commemorate his victories in the Central Asia, the Emperor commissioned his court painters, including the Italian Jesuit Giuseppe Castiglione, to draw the scenes of his battles. Those pictures were sent to France and carved into sixteen sheets of copperplate engravings, which are reputed as an important and unique specimen
in the history of interchanges between the east and the west.　The Emperor subsequently produced the engravings
depicting the battles in other places such as Annam, Taiwan, Nepal etc. They were given to a few people in his imperial court and not many of them have been passed down to the present.  “Engravings of the Emperor
Qianlong's Conquests ” consists of  full-scale facsimiles of all these battle engravings reproduced from the
properties of the Institute of Oriental  Manuscripts of the Russian Academy of Sciences and other institutions.

　清乾隆治下的六十年時間，既是清朝文化的極盛期，又是軍事膨脹的時代。今日中國的疆界幾乎全部形成於乾隆年間。乾隆爲了平定邊疆地區，在其治世中發動了十次征伐，全都贏得勝利，其偉績被稱“十全武功”。就中乾隆爲了自賀中亞地區的征服，使郎世寧等宫中西洋畫家描繪其戰鬭之景，將此運至法國，製作了一套十六張銅版畫。這作爲東西文化交流史上罕見的珍品聞名於世，名曰“準回兩部平定得勝圖”。儘管乾隆其後還製作過兩金川、安南、臺灣、狆苗、廓爾喀等戰圖，但只賜予王侯功臣而已，傳於世者絕少。此次據俄羅斯科學院東方文獻研究所等藏品，將這些戰勝圖皆以原寸複製刊行。
